Therapeutic Background
I have worked for over 35 years in the not-for-profit Community Services sector and clinical practice, in Victoria, NSW, South Australia, the NT and Tasmania. During that time, I have gained qualifications and experience in the fields of Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, trauma-informed CBT, DBT, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Sandplay Therapy, Theraplay, Family therapy and therapeutic DRUMBEAT, and have applied these in therapy with children, adolescents and adults experiencing effects of trauma, sexual abuse, family violence, substance addictions, mental health issues (Depression, Anxiety, BPD, PTSD, Attachment etc), parenting, relation-ship issues and EAP counselling. I have a special interest in rural and remote service delivery.
I have expertise in community development, including social justice advocacy, collective practices and mediation to address community concerns and divisions.
I have been privileged to work with Aboriginal colleagues and communities, and have learned to engage appropriate cultural and relational practices in my work.
I believe that wellbeing for individuals, families and communities is achieved when we can express our preferred identities and live in accordance with the values that matter to us. I am constantly inspired by the ways that people who work with me identify strengths in the midst of trauma, and make choices to live in ways that are positive for them.
